Urmi Desai, MD, MS

Dr. Desai is an attending physician at the Center for Family and Community Medicine at Columbia/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Desai grew up in upstate New York and attended Harvard University for her undergraduate degree. She completed her medical school training at the University at Buffalo (SUNY), and completed her family medicine residency at Columbia/New-York Presbyterian. She then did a primary care research fellowship during which she earned a Masters in Epidemiology.
During residency, Dr. Desai became one of the CHHMP residents and continued to volunteer at CHHMP throughout her fellowship. Outside of CHHMP, Dr. Desai sees patients both at the Al Hirschfeld Actors’ Fund medical clinic and at the Farrell Health Center. She also supervises residents at the Allen Hospital on the inpatient family medicine service and is involved with teaching residents about Quality Improvement. At the medical school, Dr. Desai is an instructor in the Foundations of Clinical Medicine and Tutorials courses and is the site director at Farrell for students who rotate there. She is interested in health care delivery research as well as in medical student education.
